Tocabe brings its Native American fare to Greenwood Village

April 1, 2015

The metro area is now armed with two locations for Tocabe, Colorado’s only American Indian owned and operated restaurant. This award-winning restaurant opened its newest location on March 7 in Greenwood Village.

Traditionally, Americans have little understanding of food in the American Indian culture. This fact was a main motivation in creating Tocabe. Owner Ben Jacobs and his team wanted to help bring a voice to what Native food can be in today’s world. Tocabe’s Berkeley neighborhood location was featured on the Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” in 2011.

New menu items in the Greenwood Village location:

  • Grilled Bannock Bread, a traditional style of bread which is rolled out and cooked to order in front of the guest.
  • The “Bad Hunter Salad”  is served with Arcadia mix lettuce and the guest’s choice of up to five toppings, including seasonal grains, vegetables, fruit and nuts.
  • When possible, ingredients are sourced from different native/tribal owned businesses – from the Tepary beans to olive oil.

Tocabe – Berkeley location: 3536 W. 44th Ave.; 720-524-8282. Tocabe – Greenwood Village: 8181 E. Arapahoe Road Suite C; 720-485-6738.

MCA’s Mothersbaugh exhibit extended through April

April 1, 2015

Due to the overwhelming interest of art patrons, the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver) is extending the exhibit Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia to April 26.

Organized by MCA Denver, this retrospective exhibition brings together the first comprehensive presentation of Mothersbaugh’s art and music to date, from the beginning of his career in the early 1970s through the present. This nationally touring exhibition coincides with the publication “Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia,” published by Princeton Architectural Press.

Though well known around the globe as a founding member of the popular band DEVO, Mothersbaugh has been a prolific artist since before the band’s inception, and continues to produce work that makes the case for his position as an important figure in contemporary culture. From his popular music to his personal artwork, Mothersbaugh’s artistic view constantly foregrounds the relationship between technology and individuality. A creative polymath moving seamlessly between art and music, he explores the interconnection between humans and machines both in his work with DEVO and throughout his career in a wide range of mediums.

“The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver has been incredibly pleased with the community feedback and visitor attendance at this truly groundbreaking and unconventional retrospective exhibition of Mark Mothersbaugh,” said Adam Lerner, director and chief animator, MCA Denver. “We wanted to provide Denver patrons, and art goers around the region, one last chance to experience this innovative and inspiring exhibition right here in the Mile High City.”

The exhibition includes documentation and music from his DEVO days; prints, drawings, paintings, sculptures, rugs, and video animations; performances; newly produced musical and sculptural installations and a life-long series of postcard-sized works, which was exhibited in its entirety for the first time at MCA Denver.

For more information about the exhibition Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia, ticketing information, special events and programming, or general museum questions, visit www.mcadenver.org.

The Inverness reveals $1.3-million makeover

March 30, 2015

The Inverness, A Destination Hotel, has announced it has completed the first phase of a multi-million dollar renovation project. The award-winning full-service hotel and conference center situated in suburban Denver underwent a $1.3 million renovation to its lobby, entrance, food and beverage outlets and event corridors.

“We are thrilled to unveil the first phase of our renovation project, bringing a fresh, new vibe to the hotel,” said George Fischer, managing director of The Inverness. “The new design incorporates distinct elements of Colorado and the West with a modern and renewed style. Our updated design aesthetic allows guests to feel like they’re visiting a mountain retreat with a city feel.”

Local interior architectural design firm Greenwood & Black were tasked with designing a complete overhaul of the hotel’s open and bright lobby and gathering spaces. With local artists filling the halls and covering the walls with various pieces, guests can now enjoy playful Western references throughout the striking new lobby and meeting areas at every turn. Denver-based artist Grant Louwagie contributed major artwork to the lobby, and other featured Colorado artists include Lisa Kowalski, Jeff Jackson, Chris Kates, Ken Elliot, Maura Allen, and Michael Baum.

The $1.3 million renovation to The Inverness lobby has fully transformed the space with a contemporary, light, airy feel. The modern design incorporates distinct elements that reflect traditional Colorado style, and a corner fireplace adds a cozy warmth.

Lobby spaces have been redesigned to accommodate single guests and small groups looking for a comfortable place for work, surfing the web or meeting friends for coffee or a drink. In addition to updated carpeting, the renovated lobby features new seating options including private individual areas, tables for small groups and a community table. Easy access to power outlets and the hotel’s wireless signal make working on computers at the ergonomically designed spaces a breeze.

Finally, the entrance has been updated with a vestibule with updated carpeting, new lighting, and sliding glass doors for ease of entrance. The Inverness has also added updated carpeting and furniture to the Ballroom and Meeting Room corridors, and supplemental lighting has been added to hallways.

Two of The Inverness’s eateries, the Garden Terrace and Fireside Bar & Grill, have been completely remodeled with updated furniture and carpet and a new design focusing on Western and native Colorado themes. Executive Chef Rodney Herwerth has added new entrees and menu items at Fireside, where guests also will find an ample selection of wine, craft spirits and beers, many sourced locally.

The lobby renovation also includes a new coffee and espresso shop featuring locally-roasted varieties from Allegro Coffee, one of Colorado’s coffee producers. Specialty coffee drinks are available from early morning until mid-afternoon, and the coffee shop also serves a small menu of muffins, pastries and light desserts.
