Top Taco time offers caliente competition

June 24, 2015

Last year, Top Taco quickly earned its chops as the “can’t-miss” tasting and competition party of the summer. This culinary throw-down takes place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Denver Sculpture Park (15th and Arapahoe) with more than 40 restaurants (double last year’s participants) – including Comida, Zengo, Margs, Pinche Tacos and Machete – competing mano a mano for the coveted Top Taco title in the Creative Taco, Traditional Taco and Margarita categories.

Voting via Smartphone for People’s Choice Taco and Best Margarita Awards.

Guests will enjoy samples of all the tacos and margaritas, along with tequila samples from more than 40 brands, beer, wine and more. Beer provided in the Modelo Especial Tent; wine served in the Edna Valley Vineyard’s Tent. Then, dance during the fiesta to the live rhythm and beat of La Candela, Denver’s hottest salsa band. This is a 21-plus event rain or shine.

Proceeds benefit Colorado Restaurant Association Education Foundation ProStart scholarship program.

Tickets are $65 general admission; $95  for First Tasting, which includes exclusive admission at 5 p.m. for a one-and-a-half hour private tasting of tequila and tacos. Limited to 300 tickets; $125 for VIP, which includes First Tasting entrance time plus exclusive access to the Patron Tequila VIP Lounge with two of Denver’s best Italian chefs – Elise Wiggins of Panzano and Brian Laird formerly of Barolo Grill and Sarto’s – creating inventive ethnic twists on tacos. Patron Tequila will feature its one-of-a-kind Roku Bar serving VIP-only specialty concoctions. Special VIP entrance, private restrooms and other surprises.
