Get in touch with your inner Hawaiian at Denver Ukefest

June 6, 2014

Swallow Hill Music presents 2014 Denver Ukefest today and tomorrow at Swallow Hill, 71 E. Yale Ave. and at The Brew on Broadway, 3445 S. Broadway.

Denver Ukefest is a festival, showcasing all-things ukulele, including workshops for all skill levels (and even loaner ukes if you don’t own one). This year’s workshops include Ukulele 101 for the absolute beginner, Fingerstyle Blues for the more advanced uke player, a Hawaiian Dance workshop for all, and more.

Most of this year’s workshops are led by the performers, ukulele experts and artisans. “It’s great to be able to interact with the performers that you’ll see on stage. In many cases, they’ll present something in the workshop, and then you’ll get to see them perform it on stage that night,” said Chris McGarry, children’s program director and ukulele teacher at Swallow Hill Music. “The workshops also have a wide array of skill levels – with lots of challenging materials that one has to ‘grow into.'”

Featuring master classes and concerts by Aldrine Guerrero, Ooks of Hazzard, Star Belle, The Copoetics, and more, Denver Ukefest is perhaps the happiest festival in Denver. For more information, and complete workshop descriptions, visit denverukefest.org or call 303-777-1003, ext. 2.
