Elephant will walk the wedding walk downtown Saturday

I told you earlier about the planned hoopla on Saturday when an elephant will carry a bride to the wedding reception at The Ritz-Carlton Denver. Now, I have more details from Denver’s Public Works, the folks who, in conjuction with the Denver Police Department, mitigate street closures.

The procession, an East Indian tradition, will mark the third and final wedding ceremony for the couple – an India-born doctor and his American wife.

“Public Works and Denver Police are aware of the elephant,” said Ann Williams, Public Works spokeswoman. “We coordinated with the event producers and we don’t expect any significant or lengthy street closures.

“Our understanding is that it will be part of a colorful procession culminating at the Ritz-Carlton. Apparently, the elephant is well-socialized, specializes in events of this nature and lives in San Diego…We’re prepared for the elephant’s arrival in terms of safety and accessibility. And, even though we have been working on this for a while, we did not receive an invite to the wedding. Boo.”
