Eating Disorder Foundation announces its second gala in March

February 5, 2014

The Eating Disorder Foundation is holding its second gala on March 22 at The Ritz-Carlton Denver. The trademarked symbol i.c.e will be featured as this year’s fundraising theme.

“I’m extremely excited to be back in ‘event’ season and gearing up for March 22,” said Toni Saiber, executive director of EDF. “This year we really wanted to help our guests make that connection back to our work with the community and in our new facility. We have created a program that is uniquely personal and engaging.”

With veteran event planner John Tobey back for the second year to create another eclectic wonderland of fires and ices in food, beverage, décor and entertainment, the gala aims to impress the guests.

Corporations can become presenting or ICE sponsors at levels from $2,500 to $25,000, or a group of friends can become a table sponsor for $1,500, a gala attendee can purchase a single ticket for $160, or there is an $85 ticket for young professional adults aged 35 and younger.

“By offering different ways for people to get involved in this year’s Fire & Ice event, we hope to reach new individuals or families who could be in need and benefit from our services,” Saiber said.

Details for the March 22 event can be found at the EDF’s webpage, www.eatingdisorderfoundation.org/gala2014/. Tickets and sponsorship packages can purchased online or by calling EDF directly at 303-322-3373.

‘Extreme Weight Loss’ holding a casting call in Aurora

February 3, 2014

Hello, my building’s gym. Why did we ever break up?

If you, like me, are struggling with New Year’s weight loss resolutions, ABC’s hit series “Extreme Weight Loss” is holding an open casting call between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. in our area at the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (12348 E. Montview Blvd.) on Feb. 15.

With the rising rates of obesity in America, the show says it is extremely important for everyone to know about this opportunity to get healthy and lose weight.

“Extreme Weight Loss” documents the makeover of courageous obese people who, in 365 days, set out to safely lose half their body weight and ultimately reveal an amazing metamorphosis.

Trainer and transformation specialist Chris Powell (below) guides each of the participants through their journey. By assuring that they have the proper nutrition and exercise, Powell helps individuals whose lives have become out of control because of the weight.

In each of the two-hour episodes, the participants undergo a transformation of their bodies, but also of their lives.

Anyone who contacts me (and subscribes to this column) who is interested in auditioning, will get a front-of-the-line pass for the open call.

Don’t think this column wouldn’t include a Super Bowl item

February 3, 2014

Even though our own Gov. John Hickenlooper and the Washington state guv Jay Inslee refused to make a Super Bowl wager, Denver’s Punch Bowl Social founder Robert Thompson and Washington’s Garage Billiards owner Alex Rosenast have pledged to donate $1,000 to their winning team’s charity of choice.

“I volunteer to send Alex a case of Orange Crush soda, win or lose,” Thompson said.

“Win or lose, I’m trying to get a dinner set up for Robert and (Seahawks cornerback) Richard Sherman,” Rosenast said.

After Sunday’s 43-8 Broncos loss to the Seagawks, a charity will be selected by the winner and the $1,000 donation will follow.
