Hotel Monaco hosting Under the Gunn pop-up store Saturday

April 11, 2014

The season finale of “Project Runway: Under the Gunn” aired Thursday night, but you can keep up the design fever when Hotel Monaco hosts the “Under the Gunn Pop Up Store” from 4-6 p.m. Saturday.

You can purchase designs created by by “Under the Gunn” mentor and Denver resident Mondo Guerra, and “UTG” designers Michelle Uberreste and Stephanie Ohnmacht. Hotel Monaco is located in downtown Denver at 1717 Champa St.

Spoiler alert: If you haven’t seen Thursday’s episode, don’t read this:

Guerra had two designers in the finale but left without a victory as Oscar Garcia-Lopez and his mentor, Nick Verreos, ended up winning the first season of the Lifetime Network reality series.

Guerra’s designs will range from $5 small gifts, up to $500 garments. Designs and accessories from his previous collections will be featured during a runway “sample sale.” Guerra is a former “Project Runway: All-Stars” winner whose design and TV career have taken off since he was a runner-up in season 8 of “Project Runway.”

Designs by Uberreste, who was mentored by Guerra, will range from $30 to $300, both for men and women.

Ohnmacht’s designs will range from $65 to $265. Ohnmacht, also a Denver resident, was mentored by Nick Verreos in the first “Under the Gunn” season.

A menu sneak peek of Argyll Whisky Beer, coming soon to Uptown

April 11, 2014

Robert Thompson is bringing back his acclaimed gastropub, Argyll Whisky Beer, to 17th and Downing. Argyll’s motto, “Eat Well – Drink Slowly – Speak Warmly” will focus on local, fresh, ingredients prepared by chef John Broening and will be paired with Level 2 Cicerone Ryan Conklin’s dimensional and balanced global beer program.

The food will be “elevated British pub cuisine” and will feature items such as Gin Cured Salmon, a “spot of tea” which is chicken and pork tea broth, ramen noodles and vegetables and it couldn’t be an English pub with Bangers and Mash.  Loyal Argyll customers will be delighted to know that the Scotch egg returns.

Grand opening is scheduled for mid-May.  They will be open 7 days a week for lunch/brunch, happy hour, dinner and late night.  Like them on Facebook to stay apprised of the opening date and events.

Two additions to the Singles who mingle: Britni and Chris

April 11, 2014

Britni, a 30-year-old Single who Mingles, is an architectural photographer (pictured below).

What is that you ask?  Contact the matchmaker Trisha to connect and find out.

Her perfect first date would be “anything interactive! At this point we’ve all done the standard ‘let’s meet for drinks’ date, so any guy who takes a couple of minutes to think up something different score extra points.”

In her spare time “photography, triathlons, anything design related and when I can anything water related (I like it the most if it’s a beach) and then the standards; dinner and drinks with friends and spending time with family.

“I grew up in northern California and my family moved to Colorado while I was in high school.”

All right men, email Trisha at trilind@hotmail.com for a chance to meet Britni.

Ladies, Chris (pictured below) is a 30-year-old business analyst for a medical device company.

What would be a great initial date? “A perfect first date really needs to stick in both individuals mind. Something unique, fun, with a touch of romance is absolutely essential.  For example a wine or beer dinner on the Georgetown Loop train. The later the better so you can catch the sunset.”

How about free time? “I love to embrace the outdoors that our lovely state has to offer. Fly fishing and backpacking are my top two.”

Contact the matchmaker Trisha at trilind@hotmail.com if you would like to make a connection with Chris.

Tax day stress relief at Lou’s

April 9, 2014

Tick-tock, tick-tock … only seven days to get your tax return to the IRS!

And the folks at Lou’s Food Bar understand that this can be a little stressful – particularly if you owe Uncle Sam.

To take the edge off (or to celebrate that giant refund) Lou’s will be serving $4 cocktails on tap, draft beers, well drinks and select wines from 4-6 p.m. on April 15.

If that’s not enough, executive chef David Prebish will be passing complimentary apps from their new happy hour menu.
