Beatles tribute returns to Red Rocks

April 24, 2015

It was in August of 1964 when the British invasion first came to Colorado with the group that started it all – the Beatles.  If you love the Beatles, you won’t want to miss “1964” The Tribute concert April 27 at Red Rocks.

This group is hailed by critics and fans alike as the most authentic and enduring Beatles tribute in the world.  Choosing songs from the pre-Sgt. Pepper era, “1964” recreates an early ’60s live Beatles concert with period instruments, vintage costumes, hairstyles, onstage mannerisms, speaking voices and harmonies of the lads from Liverpool.

This anniversary celebrates Red Rocks Amphitheatre as one of four original concert sites still remaining from the Beatles first American tour in 1964.

For more information on “1964” The Tribute, go to www.1964site.com. Gates open at 6:30 for the 8 p.m. concert.

This concert benefits Colorado Public Television 12. Tickets are $35 general admission plus service charges and are available at www.ticketmaster.com and at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available through Channel 12 online at www.cpt12.org or by calling 303-296-1212.

Sullivan’s shuttering LoDo location

April 22, 2015

Sullivan’s, the LoDo steak house owned by Texas-based Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, will close May 30 at the end of its lease, according to a story Tuesday on The Denver Business Journal’s website.

The restaurant, popular for its nightly live jazz music in the bar, as a 15-year-old fixture in an historic building on the corner of 17th and Wazee streets.

The hotspot was a favorite of Rockies fans who stop in for a quick drink and bar bites before and after games at nearby Coors Field.

“We truly value the employees that made Sullivan’s a favorite amongst our appreciated guests and have programs in place to make sure they are taken care of during this time of transition,” Del Frisco’s Group said in a statement to the DBJ.

Sullivan’s operates 16 steak houses across the country. The restaurants are owned by parent company Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group, which operates a high-end restaurant in Greenwood Village and plans to open a more casual Del Frisco’s Grille in Cherry Creek North later this year.

The new location at First Avenue and St. Paul Street will have an 8,000-square-foot restaurant plus a 9,000-square-foot rooftop and feature a menu that combines classic bar and grill meals at a lower price point that its sister restaurant Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse.
