Bottomless eats, beer and wine benefit students needing books

August 4, 2014

Charcoal Restaurant at 43 W. Ninth Ave. is hosting Margaret’s Kids Fundraiser, on behalf of public school teacher and Charcoal employee Margaret Sellers, to buy books and supplies for her students, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Margaret teaches 10th-grade English at Adams City High School in Commerce City. She  has been teaching for five years and is dedicated to the success of her students. Unfortunately, the school district doesn’t have enough funds to buy adequate books and supplies for students.

The general public is encouraged to come to the Margaret’s Kids Fundraiser and buy a $10 glass of bottomless beer or wine and/or a five-dollar plate of unlimited appetizers. Wine from the Austin Hope group, signed by the wine maker, will be given away in a raffle.

All proceeds go to help Sellers buy critically needed books and supplies for her 10th grade students.

Get out the vote for Blue Bell’s new ice cream flavor

August 4, 2014

Blue Bell Ice Cream fans again have the chance to bring back a favorite flavor from the past in the online Crankin’ Back the Clock Flavor Contest.

There are 16 flavors to choose from and the list includes Carrot Cake, French Vanilla Cappuccino, Fruit Special and Pineapple Upside Down Cake.

Blue Bell introduced its Crankin’ Back the Clock Flavor Contest in 2012 and Caramel Turtle Cheesecake Ice Cream was the winner. The flavor was reintroduced in 2013. White Chocolate Almond placed second, followed by Nutty Chocolate.

“Everyone has a favorite they would like Blue Bell to make again, so you can imagine just how difficult it is to choose only 16 flavors,” said Carl Breed, director of marketing for Blue Bell. “I think everyone will be pleased with the selection. The contest was a success in 2012 and we’re excited to find out which ice cream our fans choose this time.”

To vote you must be a member of the Blue Bell Country Club. If you are not a member, you may register at www.bluebell.com. Participants are allowed one vote per day, per registered e-mail address through Aug. 31, then on Aug. 8, the four flavors receiving the least amount of votes will be removed. A week later four more flavors will be eliminated. From Aug. 22-31, voters will choose between the final four flavors, those which have received the most votes so far.

Voting ends Aug. 31. The winning flavor will be announced in an e-mail to all Country Club members later this year and introduced in a half gallon carton in 2015.

The Beatles (tribute band) return to Red Rocks

August 1, 2014

It was in August of 1964 when the British invasion first came to Colorado with The Beatles, the group that started it all.

If you love the Beatles, you won’t want to miss the concert “1964” The Tribute, the No. 1 Beatles show in the world, at 8 p.m. Aug. 22 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Choosing songs from the pre-Sgt. Pepper era, “1964″ recreates an early ’60s live Beatles concert with period instruments, vintage costumes, hairstyles, onstage mannerisms, speaking voices, and unmistakable harmonies of the lads from Liverpool.  More than 30 years of researching and performing at major concert venues on four different continents has made the “1964″ group masters of their craft in capturing the essence of the Beatles live on stage.

This 50th anniversary celebrates Red Rocks as one of four original concert sites still remaining from the Beatles first American tour in 1964. In celebration of this historical event, “1964” will kick off the evening with the 10 songs The Beatles performed at Red Rocks in 1964.

For more information on “1964” The Tribute, go to:  www.1964site.comThis concert benefits Colorado Public Television 12. Tickets are $32 general admission (plus service charges) at www.ticketmaster.com, at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 303-296-1212 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
