Popular KBCO charity CD release Dec. 6

Radio station 97.3 KBCO will give Colorado 18 more reasons to love KBCO Studio C on Dec. 6 with the release of its anual charity CD featuring 18 songs recorded live on the air from the Denver/Boulder radio station’s performance studio.  Each year, 97.3 KBCO compiles a select few of these recordings on the annual KBCO Studio C CD release.

The limited edition CD will be available beginning at 8 a..m. Dec. 6 at all Colorado Whole Foods Market locations.  There will be a limit of two CDs per person and the collection will be sold for $12.  Traditionally the annual CD release sells out in about one day, with eager KBCO Studio C fans lining up before sunrise.

Proceeds from the sale of the KBCO Studio C Volume 26 CD will benefit the Food Bank of the Rockies and Boulder County AIDS Project.

“We are so grateful to KBCO, their listeners and the musicians who contributed their songs,” said Kevin Seggelke, president and CEO Food Bank of the Rockies. “As a beneficiary of this tremendous opportunity, Food Bank of the Rockies can feed more people in our community.  One in seven Coloradans are struggling to put food on the table and nearly one in four children live in food insecure households. Each dollar raised for FBR from KBCO Studio C sales will provide an additional four meals for our neighbors in need.”

Arvada Center expands holiday gift fair to two days

The 35th Annual Holiday Craft and Gift Fair Nov. 28 and 29 at The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., is a handmade event with more than 150 vendors representing a wide array of one-of-a-kind gift items.

Everything from ceramic art, fiber crafts including clothing, scarves, purses and mittens, glassworks, wood crafts, hand-milled soaps, scents, lotions, and specialty food items including homemade  jams and jellies, toffee and chocolates will be available at affordable prices.  All artisans go through a jury process and have been selected based on the creative style and authentic wares.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 28 and 29.

Tickets are $5 online at www.arvadacenter.org or at the door. Patrons attending theater productions and Friends of the Center donors receive free admission.  Please note: Due to space constraints, no strollers are permitted in the vendor areas. Parking is free.

One Hundred Men Who Cook swaps feast for funds

One Hundred Men Who Cook, Inc. will host its annual 1,000 person black-tie gala, from 6 p.m. to midnight Nov. 29 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Denver International Airport Convention Center, 15500 E. 40th Ave.

The event will raise funds for local youth charities Struggle of Love Foundation, Colorado Starlites Drum and Drill Team and Jazz C.A.F.E. (Cultivating a Future of Excellence).

The 100 Men Who Cook fundraiser will offer food lovers samples of a variety of entree’s, sides and other homemade dishes as the night features a diverse group of 100 esteemed men – including Denver Mayor Michael Hancock – from throughout the community preparing their specialties Mayor Hancock will whip up his family macaroni and cheese for tasting at the gala, comedian Sam Adams will amuse the crowd as master of ceremonies, and guests will be treated to red carpet interviews by FOX 31’s, Shaul Turner, along with casino games, and live entertainment by national recording artists reSurface formally known as Surface.  The evening will be highlighted by a VIP reception featuring entertainment by Denver First Lady Mary Louise Lee (pictured at bottom with her husband, Mayor Michael Hancock).

“We are extremely thankful to have support from such distinguished men from around Denver willing to invest their personal time in our youth,” said Chief Operating Officer Norma Paige, noting the participation of Mayor Hancock, Dr. Collis Johnson and long-time participating chefs Dr. Johnny Johnson and Walter Gray.  “The thought that this one event helps sustain youth-based organizations here in Denver keeps us going and will for years to come.  The youth are our future and this has become the community’s investment in them.”

DCPA opening satellite box office in Cherry Creek

For the first time, the Denver Center for the Performing Arts is opening a Holiday Box Office in an off-premises storefront on First Avenue between Detroit and Clayton streets in Cherry Creek North.

The temporary Cherry Creek pop-up store will do much more than sell tickets and gift certificates (with all handling fees waived), there will be a stage for free performances, free activities for kids and information about the wide variety of activities offered.

The 4,000-square-foot space opens Friday and runs through Dec. 23.

“We want to reinforce the idea that there are great things happening at the DCPA every day,” said Creative Director Rob Silk.

Boutique owner Snyder recognized for philanthropy

The lovely and talented boutique owner Denise Snyder was recognized for her endless energy supporting Volunteers of America during the Service With Style Fashion Luncheon Friday in the Grand Hyatt’s Pinnacle Club.

Snyder, who owns Mariel women’s clothing and bridal boutique in Cherry Creek North, was lauded as a “community icon, offering her creativity, time and fashion sense to help organizations and nonprofits across the city… She is a spirited, energetic and dedicated volunteer with a generous heart, especially for people less fortunate.”

The sellout crowd of predominantly females dressed predominantly in Mariel fashions, also got in some holiday shopping with a handful of pop-up stores in the reception area. Winter fashions from Mariel and Goldyn in LoHi were featured during the program.

“This is a roomful of Type A Mariel girls,” Snyder told the crowd. “You’re giving and loving powerful women.”
