Liquor Limo app ready to deliver the goods to Argonaut neighbors

August 26, 2015

Denver-based Liquor Limo has partnered with Argonaut Wine & Liquor, 760 E. Colfax Ave., to expand service in the city to include even more homes. Liquor Limo, the premier shopping experience for wine, liquor and beer delivery, launched in markets throughout Colorado in late June – with the new partnership, LoDo, North Denver, Uptown and other central Denver neighborhoods now have service.

The free app, now available for download on iOS and Android, offers seamless, scheduled liquor delivery or in–store pickup. Unlike competitors, Liquor Limo is based in Colorado, offers statewide delivery and includes free delivery on orders of more than $50.

Liquor Limo partners with local neighborhood liquor stores to provide inventory and delivery services to customers, with a minimum order of $25. Valid photo ID proving the user is 21 years of age or older is verified upon delivery, which can be scheduled up to 14 days in advance.

App users have direct access to local liquor stores’ inventory, and Liquor Limo never marks up prices on any products. All payments are remitted to partner liquor stores directly through the app, via the customer’s securely stored payment information.

Additionally, Liquor Limo has contracted with a local lab to map dozens of chemical analytes associated with taste, aroma and texture, in more than 25,000 wines, beers and spirits, and develop the patent-pending Replica Recommendation Engine. Through the Liquor Limo app, users can identify their favorite wines, beers or distilled spirits, then use the Replica Recommendation Engine to compare meaningful chemical data points across tens of thousands of brands and discover similar tasting beverages, often at a fraction of the price, and then have them delivered directly to their homes or offices.

Currently, the service provides liquor delivery in the following markets: Avon, Vail, Frisco (Beaver Creek, Lake Dillon), Pueblo, Stapleton, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Durango, Carbondale, Montrose, Thornton, Fort Collins, Greeley and Denver. Additional markets across the country will follow.

Frasca folks bringing new concept to Union Station development

August 24, 2015

The team behind Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder will open a restaurant in Denver by the end of 2016. Master sommelier Bobby Stuckey and chef Lachlan Mackinnon Patterson are partnering with the Continuum subsidiary to bring a yet-unnamed restaurant to the A Block at Union Station development.

Continuum owns the forthcoming adjacent 200 room hotel managed by the Kimpton Group. The development, located on 16th Street between Wewatta and Wynkoop, will also include an office building with retail and restaurants and a subterranean parking garage, all of which are currently under construction — just look for the large red cranes cranking away there every day.

“We are thrilled to be part of such a dynamic and vibrant hospitality and real estate project in the heart of downtown Denver,” said Stuckey, who has previously attempted to bring his team to Denver, as part of the original Union Station redevelopment project. The bid to redevelop the train station, which was rejected in 2011, had Stuckey and Patterson operating a conglomerate of retail establishments that could have included a coffee shop, a pizza restaurant, a bakery, a wine and cheese shop, a bakery and a gelato shop, among others.

This time around, the duo who also owns Pizzeria Locale in Boulder and its more casual offshoots (a partnership with Chipotle) in Denver and Kansas City, is just focusing on one restaurant. A new stand-alone 125-seat space will anchor the ground-level storefront on the 16th Street Mall adjacent to the Wynkoop Street Plaza and train platform. Stuckey and Patterson are planning to be open for lunch and dinner but will not provide food and beverage service to the hotel.

Local architecture firm Semple Brown, with whom the Frasca team has previously collaborated on multiple projects, is designing the new restaurant. Highlights include an open kitchen, seasonal outdoor patio and full bar.

“This new restaurant will offer accessible dining for both neighbors and visitors alike, offering an experience between our sister restaurants Frasca Food and Wine and Pizzeria Locale Boulder,” Patterson said in a press release. While the team would not reveal more, all signs point to a large format Italian taverna where pizza and pasta will reign along with a strong wine program.

Metro State adds new sudsy classes for fall

August 24, 2015

Metropolitan State University of Denver has added four new beer courses for fall 2015 and named a new faculty coordinator for its growing Beer Industry Operations program to facilitate a real-world, hands-on educational experience, including use of Tivoli Brewing Company’s new $7 million campus operation.

New classes began last week, and include Brewery Operations, Fermentation Science, Beverage Sales and Marketing, and Cooking with Beer. Instructor Scott Kerkmans is the new coordinator of the Beer Industry Program within the Department of Hospitality, Tourism and Events. As a former brewer at Alaska Brewing and one of the first five Certified Cicerones in the world, Kerkmans is a leading professional educator for beer distributors, retailers and brewers.

A unique aspect of the program is students will learn all elements of beer industry operations and management in a historic facility that has the brewing capacity to be among the top 20 craft breweries in the state. The Tivoli Brewery will be the first full production brewery in the country on a college campus. In 2012, a group of native Coloradans formed the Tivoli Distributing Company and ending the 43-year hiatus and once again began brewing Tivoli beer after more than 100 years as one of the largest breweries in the state.

The brewery and academic program will add to the economic impact of the industry in Colorado, already valued at more than $10.3 billion and employing more than 24,000, according to a recent report by the Beer Institute.

“Our faculty’s rapid response to industry need, including the Tivoli Brewing Company, in creating new curriculum demonstrates MSU Denver’s impact on Colorado’s workforce,” said MSU Denver President Stephen Jordan.

For more than 14 years, MSU Denver’s Hospitality, Tourism and Events program has been teaching students the fundamentals of beverage management with a special emphasis in service integration within restaurant and hotel environments. A foundational class, Beer and Spirits, teaches students the major categories of beer including the practical brewing and sensory analysis of beer styles. Students can earn major degrees in Brewery Operations and Brewpub Operations as well as a minor or certificate.

To complement classroom instruction, students previously utilized the Gold Medal winning Blue Moon Brewing facilities, located in the Sandlot Brewery at Coors Field, to experience first-hand all phases of the brewing process. Now with the opening of Tivoli Brewing Company on campus, the program will shift higher-level course experiences to Tivoli’s campus operation. The foundation Beer and Spirits course will also work with Rising Sun Distillery and Strange Craft Brewing Company for additional experiential education, since both facilities are within walking distance from campus.

“When we considered pursuing this endeavor, we saw the educational opportunities it would create for students, current employees and craft brewers as a whole and we knew it was a win-win for all those involved,” said Corey Marshall, founder and chief executive officer for Tivoli Brewing Company. “Educational opportunities for students will go beyond just brewing to all aspects of the operation from restaurant management, distribution, sales, marketing, packaging, quality control and business operations.”

Tivoli Brewing Company has already hired students in roles such as certified beer server, brewer’s assistant and restaurant service.
