Manning’s chocolate likeness a sweet hit at Choctoberfest

September 21, 2015

Perhaps the “sweetest” homage to Peyton Manning‘s Broncos quarterback career was the chocolate-covered bronze sculpture unveiled by Choctoberfest Saturday at the Omni Interlocken Resort and Spa in Broomfield.

Longmont-based sculpture artist Tim King spent the last year and a half working on this 300-pound statue that he coated in chocolate and put on display for the all-chocolate event.

King told Fox-31 News that he is paying tribute to Manning because he is “a team player and a great leader.” The statue is “more about the ‘man’ in Manning than the game. So there’s a lot of quotes, a lot of things from his family, different references to his education and his career,” revealed King in a mid-July interview with Fox 31.

While the chocolate-covered version of the popular Broncos QB was made of plaster, King intends to create a handful of Bronze versions of the statue for $55,000 each.

To see more of King’s creations (and to place your order for a Manning bronze), go to www.bronze.biz/.com.

John Hickenlooper and the Hick-Tones, Rocky Mountain PBS’ Cynthia Hessin, Secretary of State Wayne Williams, Denver City Council member Kevin Flynn, Rep. Jonathan Singer with other state legislators, and more names from politics and media.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and showtime is at 7 p.m. at the Reiman Theater, in the Margery Reed Hall building (2306 E. Evans Ave.) on the DU campus, next to the Daniels College of Business. Parking is free, underground at the Daniels College of Business, which is next door to the Hall building.

The original performance was held in 1946, and its current run has been an almost-annual occurrence since 2000.

Also returning are members of the core cast each year: Edie Sonn, Ruth Darling-Goldberg, Cynthia Rose, Tom Corona, Bruce Goldberg and violinist Julia Hays. Hank Troy is the pianist.
