Memorial celebration for Seawell’s life set

The memorial celebration for Donald R. Seawell, the king of Denver theater, will take place beginning at 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at (appropriately) The Seawell Grand Ballroom (Speer and Arapahoe).

Speakers will include Governor John Hickenlooper, Chairman of The Denver Post Dean Singleton, DCPA Board Chairman Daniel L. Ritchie, DCPA President and CEO Scott Shiller, DCPA Theatre Company Producing Artistic Director Kent Thompson, DCPA Trustee Judi Wolf, and Seawell’s granddaughter Brett Wilbur.

The program will include performances of songs selected personally by Seawell including “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “My Way”, “They Can’t Take That Away from Me”, “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “I Will Always Love You”. Seawell’s selections will be performed by Michael Fitzpatrick, Denver First Lady Mary Louise Lee, M. Scott McLean, Jeffrey Roark, Christine Rowan, Lauren Shealy and Shannan Steele, with music direction by David Nehls.

The event is open to the public. No RSVP is required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the DCPA’s Fund for Innovation. Please contact Associate Director of Development Marc Ravenhill at 303-572-4594.

Denver is the No. 1 arts city in the country because of the innovative path Mr. Seawell set us on 37 years ago. We will continue to honor his legacy in all we do.”

Cherry Creek mall celebrates ‘The Peanuts Movie’ with interactive Ice Palaces

To celebrate the launch of “The Peanuts Movie,” in theaters Friday, a family-friendly holiday experience is being offered at Cherry Creek Shopping Center from Friday through Dec. 24.

Developed in partnership with 20th Century Fox, the iconic Peanuts characters will take center stage within interactive Ice Palaces. The indoor holiday displays will feature a 30-foot dome complete with falling snow, a light show and other activities for the entire family.

“We are excited to continue our tradition of aligning with fun, family-oriented films in association with our Ice Palace. The partnership between The Peanuts Movie and our Ice Palace is sure to be an entertaining experience for all ages,” said Dave Dixon, Cherry Creek Shopping Center’s marketing and sponsorship director.

In addition, kids can watch special scenes from the new movie, create and compare their icy handprint alongside Snoopy and Woodstock, have their photo taken with a life-size graphic of Snoopy and his dog house and much more. Cherry Creek Shopping Center also will offer the opportunity for families to visit with Santa Claus as part of the Ice Palace experience. Those who visit Santa will receive a complimentary gift.

The Peanuts Ice Palace, located in the Kaiser Permanente Grand Court within the shopping center, will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays, as well as during all extended center hours throughout the holiday season. For more information visit www.shopcherrycreek.com/events.

Nosh & Posh marries food trucks and fashion

You don’t have to wait until next spring to get your Civic Center food truck fix. Civic Center Nosh & Posh  will be bringing several Civic Center EATS trucks together with local fashion trucks for an entertaining way to spend your lunch-hour in Civic Center Park, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. beginning Nov. 12.

Shop boutique items, snag local gems and grab a bite (to go or stay) at the monthly gathering of food and fashion trucks.

Reunion Gastro Pub open in downtown Denver

Reunion Gastro Pub + Wine Bar is now open on the corner of 15th and Arapahoe in downtown Denver. The Colorado-inspired gastro pub uses fresh and local ingredients, and offers a modern take on traditional bar favorites including appetizers, salads, burgers and pizzas.

The restaurant specializes in charcuterie, offers lunch specials during the week, and all menu items are $15 or under. Reunion has more than 20 beers on tap – the majority of them from Colorado breweries – craft cocktails and wine, a large bar with four TVs, two dining areas and an outdoor patio.

“We want our guests to enjoy delicious, chef-driven food without pretense or attitude,” said Martin Hammer, general manager at Reunion. “The menu we have created, the food we serve, and the vibe in the restaurant certainly lends itself to accomplish this.”

Reunion sources many of its products from local, Colorado farms and dairies including Boulder Natural Meats, Morning Fresh Dairy and The GrowHaus. The gastro pub also makes nearly all of the ingredients on their menu in-house including house made charcuterie and brats, cold house smoked trout, pizza dough, farmer’s cheese and house pulled mozzarella.

Signature dishes include the pub hour favorite, house made Pigs N Pretzel, a unique take on pigs in a blanket with homemade sausage wrapped in homemade pretzels; the Smokin’ Ruben with house smoked pulled brisket, home made sauerkraut, 1,000 island and gruyere; and The Driver burger topped with aged white cheddar, house made boar bacon, arugula and garlic aioli. Reunion offers gluten free and dairy free options as well.

Reunion Gastro Pub + Wine Bar is open for lunch, pub hour and dinner from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for pub hour and dinner. The restaurant and bar serves pub hour specials from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and again during late night hours. The restaurant is located near the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for a pre- or post-theater meal or drink, offers valet parking Thursday-Saturday and also has free wi-fi for guests.

Denver chanteuse Garrett brings back Under Paris Skies

Denver’s own songstress, Lannie Garrett returns with her popular Gypsy jazz show, Under Paris Skies, beginning at 8 p.m. Nov. 7  and continuing every Saturday through Nov. 28 at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret in downtown Denver. Doors open at 7 p.m. and tickets are $35.

The Under Paris Skies show is a pairing of Garrett’s smooth vocals and the catchy, foot-tapping music of the group, The Gypsy Swing Revue. Gypsy jazz is a blend of two styles of music, traditional Gypsy music and American Swing. Featured songs include: “La Vie en Rose,” “Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen,” C’est Si Bon,” and “Under Paris Skies.”

Musicians Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, from the Hot Club of France, originally conceived Gypsy jazz in the 1930s. The Gypsy Swing Revue features the arrangements of lead guitarist, Elliot Reed with Anthony Salvo featured on violin, Stephen Hill on rhythm guitar and Jean-Luc Davis on stand-up bass.

Halloween doughnut delights from celebrated Chef Brunson

On Halloween (Saturday), Chef Justin Brunson and Josh Schwab are teaming up to bring guests a spooky gourmet doughnut breakfast at Old Major, 3316 Tejon St. The event will start at 9:30 a.m. and will feature classic doughnuts from Glazed & Confuzed as well as some new ones as well.

Chef Brunson will be experimenting with a fusion of pork and doughnuts to bring consumers a sweet and savory dish. This will be a first come first serve basis. On top of the doughnut pop-up event, Old Major will be serving its regular brunch menu from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
