The memorial celebration for Donald R. Seawell, the king of Denver theater, will take place beginning at 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at (appropriately) The Seawell Grand Ballroom (Speer and Arapahoe).
Speakers will include Governor John Hickenlooper, Chairman of The Denver Post Dean Singleton, DCPA Board Chairman Daniel L. Ritchie, DCPA President and CEO Scott Shiller, DCPA Theatre Company Producing Artistic Director Kent Thompson, DCPA Trustee Judi Wolf, and Seawell’s granddaughter Brett Wilbur.
The program will include performances of songs selected personally by Seawell including “There’s No Business Like Show Business”, “My Way”, “They Can’t Take That Away from Me”, “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “I Will Always Love You”. Seawell’s selections will be performed by Michael Fitzpatrick, Denver First Lady Mary Louise Lee, M. Scott McLean, Jeffrey Roark, Christine Rowan, Lauren Shealy and Shannan Steele, with music direction by David Nehls.
The event is open to the public. No RSVP is required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the DCPA’s Fund for Innovation. Please contact Associate Director of Development Marc Ravenhill at 303-572-4594.
“Donald Seawell was a visionary whose dreams for the city of Denver, the state of Colorado and indeed the world will outlive generations to come,” said DCPA President and CEO Shiller. “Mr. Seawell’s reputation as an industry leader inspired the creation of countless other performing arts centers throughout the country. Denver is the No. 1 arts city in the country because of the innovative path Mr. Seawell set us on 37 years ago. We will continue to honor his legacy in all we do.”
