Bruce Goldberg, now in his 10th year as president of the board of directors at The Denver Press Club, hopes to turn water into money by swimming two miles (plus one lap) during his “Welcome to Medicare 65th Birthday Fundraising Swim” to benefit The Press Club starting at 8 a.m. Aug. 4.
Goldberg’s favorite exercise is distance swimming. He’ll do the swim in the outdoor pool of the Jewish Community Center, 350 South Dahlia St. Bruce turns 65 on Aug. 27.
“We raised money for the club when I swam 64 laps (two miles) last year, and we’re going to try to repeat that,” Goldberg said. “There are many people in Colorado and around the nation who love the club and want it to thrive, and this is a great way to help out. Donations can be made at www.denverpressclub.org; see the donation box at the upper right of the website.
“We’re doing this swim to raise money for our treasury, and will use the funds to further our missions,” he said. Those include support for journalism scholarships for journalism majors at University of Northern Colorado, University of Denver, University of Colorado, Colorado State University-Pueblo, Colorado State University-Fort Collins and Metropolitan State University of Denver and for operating the club.
