Boulder-bred chef Gabe Kennedy, who now calls New York City home, was the record-setting champion of season three of the ABC cooking competition “The Taste.”
Kennedy, who was named the show’s winner on Thursday, gets his own cooking show on ABC.com, $100,000 and “The Taste” trophy.
The culinary tug-of-war puts 16 contestants – from home cooks to pros – going tongs to tongs to create a single spoonful of food judged by heavyweight foodies Anthony Bourdain, Nigella Lawson, Ludo Lefebvre and Marcus Samuelson.
Kennedy’s journey to victory earned him the most gold stars in the series’ history.
According to the website heavy.com, “Saints And Sinners was the theme for team challenge with two opposite dishes and 90 minutes to cook. The guest judge was the successful Jonathan Waxman, who tasted each contestant’s food blindly…For Gabe, Waxman loved the complexity of his food.
“…Next up was the solo challenge with a Surf and Turf theme. Each cook created two dishes for the judges to taste and this time, Waxman was overseeing their skills in the kitchen and acting as their mentor.
“The final challenge was titled Three Perfect Courses and the inspiration for the challenge was to watch Waxman prepare his own three-course meal. Gabe has a panicking moment when he realizes the sour cherries he has are not fresh. Nonetheless, each of the dishes were delicious and the judges had a tough time figuring out the winner…And the winner was announced as Gabe.” Kennedy works as a private chef based in Brooklyn.
