Two local venues will pay homage to the genius of the late comedian Robin Williams this week.
Comedy Works, with locations downtown and at The Landmark in Greenwood Village, is planning to host two fundraisers in Williams’ honor.
The Alamo Drafthouse in Littleton, will pay respects to Williams’ movie career with the showing of “Popeye,” “The Fisher King” and “One Hour Photo.”
Williams rose to fame with the role of Mork in the acclaimed TV series “Mork & Mindy,” set in Boulder back in 1978. In response to the tragic loss of this comedic icon, Comedy Works believes that his memory can be best served by helping others suffering from depression and contemplating suicide. Therefore, 100 percent of the ticket sales will be donated to the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado. The SPCC was formed in 1999 with the mission to reduce suicide and its impact for all Coloradans through advocacy, collaboration and education. Former newspaper journalist Sam Adams will headline Comedy Works South at the Landmark at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, while Boulder-based comedian Nancy Norton will headline Comedy Works downtown in Larimer Square at 8 p.m.

Alamo Drafthouse Littleton will show screenings of three films from Williams’ repertoire to pay tribute to the actor after recent his untimely passing, leaving an indelible hole in the cinematic memories of millions of people. Tickets for each screening are $5 with all proceeds to benefit the University of Colorado Depression Center, which provides treatment for people with depression and bipolar disorder as well as co-occurring anxiety disorders. “Popeye,” the musical adaptation of the comic strip character, will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
“The Fisher King,” also starring Jeff Bridges will start at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
“One Hour Photo,” a tale of a photo lab technician who becomes obsessed with a suburban family, shows at 9:30 p.m. Saturday
